January is National Birth Defects Prevention Month.  This is a time to raise awareness of birth defects and to promote healthy pregnancies.

A birth defect is a problem that occurs while the baby is growing in the mother’s body.  Many birth defects can be prevented.  Here are some tips to help you have a healthy pregnancy:

*Take a vitamin with folic acid everyday during pregnancy.

*See your doctor regularly as soon as you think you are pregnant.

*Make sure your vaccinations are updated.

*Eat healthy and stay active.

*Try to prevent infections.
