PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL NOMINATIONS As you know, this weekend we have Nominations to the Parish Pastoral Council, whose primary purpose (according to its constitution) is advising me, thereby enabling the parish better to be a community of faith called to proclaim the good news of God’s kingdom present among us. This is done by prayerfully discerning the needs of the parish community, serving as a consultative body to the pastor, maintaining a mission statement which embraces the total life and mission of the parish, and establishing clear vision and goals based on the mission statement and needs of the parish. The Council meets on a monthly basis, every first Tuesday at 7:00PM. Members must be at least 18 years old. You may nominate yourself or others. If you need more time to think about it, phone-in nominations will be accepted at the Parish Office (683-4903) through Friday, November 2 at 5:00PM. Elections from a slate of the top six nominees will take place at the weekend Masses November 17-18.

ALL SAINTS & ALL SOULS For the Solemnity of All Saints, we will follow our usual Holy Day schedule: Wednesday evening, 6:30PM (I’ll be greeting trick-or-treaters after Mass at the rectory!), Thursday at 8:00AM and 6:30PM. On Friday, All Souls Day, after the Masses (First Friday, 8:00AM and 5:15PM), weather permitting, we’ll go in procession to the cemetery to pray for our beloved dead.

FIRST FRIDAY On November 2, the Sacrament of Penance will be offered 7:00-7:45AM, Masses at 8:00AM and 5:00PM, with Eucharistic Exposition throughout the day. Please sign up in the vestibule of church for an hour with the Lord.

AROUND THE PARISH Congratulations to Tom and Virginia Schnellenberger who celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary last Saturday evening at Mass! God bless your faithful witness to His love for us. | In case you didn’t know, there is a vibrant Pro-Life Organization in Dubois County, including Teens for Life, who met last Sunday at St. Mary’s. Thanks to all who guide and participate in the organization. | This past Thursday evening, the Religious Education Commission met. Thanks to all those who give of their time to look after the formation of our young people in the parish. | The Dubois County Herald article on the Knights of Columbus detailed several challenges. I know the group is open to initiating new members. Men of St. Mary’s, please consider joining.

RIAL THANKSGIVING PRAYER SERVICE A reminder that St. Mary’s will be hosting the Religion in American Life Ecumenical Prayer Service on Sunday evening, November 18, 7:00PM in the church. Please make an effort to show hospitality to our brothers and sisters in Christ.

FROM THE SECOND VATICAN COUNCIL  Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Sacrosanctum Concilium 7. To accomplish so great a work, Christ is always present in His Church, especially in her liturgical celebrations. He is present in the sacrifice of the Mass, not only in the person of His minister, “the same now offering, through the ministry of priests, who formerly offered himself on the cross,” but especially under the eucharistic species. By His power He is present in the sacraments, so that when a man baptizes it is really Christ Himself who baptizes. He is present in His word, since it is He Himself who speaks when the holy scriptures are read in the Church. He is present, lastly, when the Church prays and sings, for He promised: “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matt. 18:20).

Heavenly Father, we give You praise and thanksgiving for all that You have given us.

We look forward to a day of worship, work, fellowship and good times.

We pray for a good response from our workers, parishioners, and Your whole community of faith.

We ask You to guide us to do the very best, to make our picnic a success.
