First Reconciliation

"Now we must celebrate and rejoice, because your brother was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found."
-Luke 15:32

First Reconciliation at St. Mary's

Reconciliation is an often unappreciated and underutilized sacrament in the Catholic Faith. This is a real tragedy because the confessional is the place where we come closest with God's endless Mercy and love. If you find yourself asking "Why do I need to confess my sins to a priest?" please click the link below to learn more about why the Church teaches what it does on this important topic. If you'd like to learn more about how St. Mary's prepares children to receive the Sacrament, please see the information below.

First Reconciliation Timeline

Winter of 2nd Grade

It is most typical for our students to prepare for reconciliation at the beginning of their 2nd grade year, and to make their first reconciliation around November or December of that year. Ideally, the student's family will have already undergone our "ROOT" family catechesis year, which introduces families to Salvation History and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Nonetheless, we welcome any Catholic who has been baptized to join us for the sacrament. Please reach out to Clare at cneukam@evdio.org if you have a student in an irregular situation looking to receive the sacrament of reconciliation. First Reconciliation Preparation

Mend Family Catechesis

Preparation for First Reconciliation is completed through our family catechesis program titled "Mend." Mend includes 3 At-Church meeting sessions and 1 At-Church Mini Retreat which takes place directly before your child makes their first reconciliation. It also includes a take-home box with 7 At-Home Family Meetings. This program will make you a more effective catechist for your children at home, and it will root you deeper into the wonderful family-oriented community at St. Mary's Huntingburg.
