What does it mean to be a "Jubilee Church"?

A special period of spiritual intensity

During the Jubilee year of 2025, the Catholic Church worldwide is actively engaged in a special period of spiritual intensity, emphasizing God's mercy, offering abundant opportunities for forgiveness and reconciliation through sacraments and indulgences, and calling its members to deeper holiness, charity, and a renewed commitment to its mission of evangelization.

St. Mary's is one of 5 Jubilee Churches in our diocese. A Jubilee is fundamentally a "year of the Lord's favor," a time for the remission of sins and the punishments due to them. For the Church to be a "Jubilee Church" means it is actively facilitating this grace, offering opportunities for sacramental and extra-sacramental penance, and granting indulgences on a larger scale than usual. It is a period when the Church emphasizes God's mercy and the gift of His peace.
